Tillicum Trail, Tended.

Unlike the Rhozone farther south, the winter storms seemed to have spared the Indian Heaven area of the Gifford Pinchot National Forest, and by the end of day one we had completed our objectives and not only fully cleared the Tillicum Trail, but gotten a good ride in as well.

Last year we completed our logout of the trail despite fierce objection from hordes of mosquitoes and freezing rain. This year the mosquitoes rejoined us, but we had pleasant dry weather and many eager hands—ambitiously raking the entire trail free from years of stick fall and shrub growth. On our second day we tackled another nearby neglected trail and dialed in the bottom half of Bluff Trail.

Huge thanks to NW Trail Alliance and Nancy Stone for collaborating on this project with us! Collectively we worked 392 hours that are worth over $14,000.

Check out the video below from Voice Over Trail Reviews where Josef interviews Orogenesis Executive Director Gabriel Tiller and NW Trail Alliance Stewardship Director, Nancy Stone.

Got that FOMO? Wish you had been there? You’re in luck, we have a handful more Orogenesis events in the PNW this summer. (We're especially in need of volunteers for the Lakes Loop build.)

Want to ride Tillicum?

Ride the Tillicum Trail from east to west, parking near Tillicum Campground looping it with FS30 or FS3032. The loops are 13-15 miles and intermediate difficulty. Like this. (At the stream crossing, look for the log crossing to your right.)
