First, Lose No Trail.
There are a number of ways you can help improve the Orogenesis route.
Often, the best way you can help Orogenesis is simply by going out and enjoying it. These backcountry trails need more users to make sure they don’t keep disappearing.
The info on this page is updated regularly. Keep reading to learn how you can help with unknown trails, maintenance backlog, or develop new trail proposals.

First, Lose No Trail
One of the easiest ways you can help improve the Orogenesis route is by making existing trails more rideable. Each year we lose more and more trail miles to the maintenance backlog, and land managers are looking to volunteers to help bring them back to life. We organize trail stewardship events each year for the bigger projects, but most of the backlog can be resolved by simply carrying a handsaw or loppers on your next ride.
Stewardship Events
Partners & Local Events
We couldn’t do what we do without the tireless work of our partners. Orogenesis only hosts a few stewardship events each year but these local organizations host dozens. Join them for a work party, event, or even donate to their nonprofit.
Gaps & Solutions
In its current 2025 iteration, the Orogenesis route has 1,594 miles of trails—or approximately 32% singletrack. The majority of the remainder is along quiet dirt and gravel roads. But about 10% of the route is on paved roads, frequently these sections are undesirable if not a downright safety hazard.
We've prioritized 67mi of new or restored trail projects that would eliminate 115mi of the most dangerous highway sections. We’re working with our local partners to develop the below proposals to continually improve the route: aiming for as close to 100% singletrack as we can get.
